HOW TO GET ENERGIZED BY APRICITY

Back in Ireland, my dad would always say to me “you love those Marmalade Words don’t you?”

The answer is yes, I love language especially when they paint a paradigm, vision, or an experience. During the summer holidays one school year, I pushed myself through the break, to see how much I could read, 27,000 pages, if you are curious.

So why is “Apricity” on my radar as we start another year? Well, the definition of Apricity is to feel the warmth of the sun on a winter day. I believe essential parts of clarity and strategy are comprised of; inventorying, taking stock, listening to your gut, to your trusted advisors and coach/mentor. Responsiveness and leadership are bi-products of these disciplines.

MASTERY

Driven people are energized by “The New And The Next”, I think it is charming, admirable and quite frankly a healthy component to dynamic leadership. However, I have always said that for every remarkable superpower there is an insidious kryptonite. Pushing oneself to exhaustion, maximized stress and being on people fumes are the other side of the coin for ‘The Driven’.

ACTIVE AWARENESS

There are so many ways one can harvest energy to persevere and produce in a healthy way. This particular I am writing about today is as impactful as it is personal. What does the sound of your own voice sound like? What is going right in your life, relationships, traction and growth from the past year, individual team members improving, communication with senior leadership becoming more cohesive. Perspective, Clarity and Gratitude for the warmth of the sun on a winter day and all other areas of your life can create a resolve like no other.

Before you dive in, with abandon, inventory the wins in all areas of your life, I don’t think the “Good To Great”, ethos we teach at ARC would be possible or sustainable with out it.
