Myth Busters

Reaction Versus Response

Over the years I have experienced 'perpetuated myths’ when reviewing clients dominant abilities, the number one misnomer is that “everyone has the same abilities as I do, they are just being lazy and stupid.”

It may seem that it’s not a well thought out statement, rather, it’s a visceral response, it’s a knee-jerk reaction that isn’t based on fact. Not only are we not alike we are extremely distinctive and nuanced in our unique individual design.

In the 16th century we traveled only a few miles in our lifetime, we only knew one hundred people in our lifetime. In our digital world, few people are herding the cows into the barn at sunset and gathering around the hearth every evening, sharing ourselves with each other. The more we are busy the less examined our lives can be.

QUICK FIX

Many people tap into the quick psychometric systems like Myers Briggs and DISC, they compare you to a broad base of others and then you are presented with some guidelines to function. The real challenge is that we are unique as a fingerprint and our unmanaged abilities can wreak havoc on our overall wellbeing.

BLINDSPOTS

Every ability has naturally occurring blindspots and when unmanaged can bully oneself or manifest as toxic coping mechanisms. We can be encouraged to suppress or ignore our core nature, ironically the positive or negative aspects of our abilities will erupt either way. We focus on identifying your individual design, establishing rewards for productivity milestones and strategy for optimizing your professional and personal life.

Locking your abilities and aspirations into a closet is unfortunately a common and ridiculous position many people can attempt in their lives, I think the tragedy can be lost opportunities, conversely when people people tap into their authentic self their growth can be exponential and invigorating.

REMEMBERING WHO YOU ARE

Helping people remember who they are, has been a major part of my life, additionally, helping people with communicating with loved ones and colleagues has been right up there as the most important issue people constantly face.

We have a reflex reaction to ‘wear the other person down’, doesn’t work and is not sustainable. Being aware of yourself, needs and wants and then the wants and don’t wants of the person you are negotiating with is the only sustainable solution.  What is the ‘Highest and Best use of your Time today?’

In the coming blogs I will deep dive into amplifying your awareness and strategy and those pesky blindspots that can hobble us. More soon…  #work #growth #blogs
